Resources For Using Medical Literature
The following resources are available to the clinical staff of Bayfront Medical Center. Staff also credentialed at All Children's Hospital should contact the librarian at All Children's for information about obtaining access to resources sponsored by that facility.
- Online Research Tools
- Cochrane Library - Contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Bayfront Medical Center only.
- Medscape - Online index to conferences, free credit continuing education courses, reviews of current research, and selected full text journal articles. Requires a one-time free registration for your personal account.
- MD Consult - individual subscriptions to quick-reference point of care content, books, journals and review articles.
- PubMed MEDLINE - With links to online full text journals available through Aucremann Medical Library.
- UpToDate - Evidence-based Point of Care decision support clinical informatics software; includes pharmacy and patient education information. Full text access within Bayfront Medical Center, the Plaza offices, and the Clinics only.
- Books
- Harrison's Online - The complete text from the latest edition of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, and more. Updated daily. Password access is required outside of Bayfront Medical Center, The Plaza offices and the Clinics.
- NLM LOCATORplus - The National Library of Medicine's Online Book & Journal Catalogs.
- State University Libraries - The Online Catalog for state universities and community colleges in Florida.
- Williams's Obstetrics online - The complete text, charts, diagrams and illustrations from the latest edition. Cross referenced to Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, drug and clinical practice guidelines. Password access is required outside of Bayfront Medical Center, The Plaza offices and the Clinics.

- PubMed MEDLINE - To use: On the left side bar select Clinical Queries. Find results by creating a search by first selecting diagnosis or another term from the list. Then enter a combination of terms: nursing AND guideline AND your selected topic. Example:nursing AND guideline AND child abuse. - AORN Foundation Scholarship Program - Offers financial support to students enrolled in nursing schools and perioperative nurses pursuing bachelors, masters, or doctoral degrees.
- Emergency Nursing Association - ENA Foundation mission is to enhance emergency healthcare services to the public through the promotion and support of research and education.
- Florida Nurses Association - FNA Foundation supports nursing education and research and provides assistance to nurses.
- Johnson & Johnson Nursing Scholarship Search - Database of available funds for nursing education which allows you to search over 300 funding sources.
- Minority Nurse Scholarship Opportunities - Directory for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate education in nursing.
- National Institute of Nursing Research - Promotes funding for research in chronic diseases, maternal and child health, health promotion and risk reduction. Active grant programs in the state of Florida are with the University of Central Florida, (#42 in funding); University of South Florida,(#43 in funding); and the University of Florida, (#94 in funding.)
